The International Center for Patient Safety is committed to engaging patients and families in improving patient safety. The Patient and Family Advisory Group helps the Center to identify current and evolving patient safety issues that are of concern to the public and advises the Center as to which approaches to solving patient safety problems are most meaningful to recipients of care. The Patient and Family Advisory Group also provides technical assistance in the development of patient safety solutions as well as in their implementation. The first meeting of the Patient and Family Advisory Group was convened in March of 2006. Since the inaugural meeting, the Patient and Family Advisory Group meets twice a year to advise and counsel the International Center for Patient Safety.
