The Champions for Patient Safety (the Champions), established in December 2005, is an informal alliance of U. S. organizations that have taken leadership roles in promoting patient safety in health care organizations. The Champions seek to identify and pursue opportunities to work together in order to maximize use of the resources they devote to patient safety and in order to amplify the effectiveness of their individual patient safety efforts beyond what any one of them can achieve acting alone. The Joint Commission serves as secretariat to the Champions.
